Lord Shiva
LORD SHIVA

Lord shiva, the god of all gods, one who understands everyone equally and is the one who removes all sorrows. It is considered as that Lord Shiva has taken 19 avatars and in some texts the avatars of Lord shiva are 24. One of the Avatar of Lord Shiva is "Brahmchari Avatar".Lord Shiva has taken brahmchari avatar ( a form of celibate ) to test the devotion and love of Goddess Parvati ( his wife ) towards him.

STORY OF BRAHMACHARI AVATAR:

So the is story of that time when Goddess Sati went for yagna organised by his father Prajapati Daksha. Prajapati Daksha( son of Lord Brahma ) uttered harsh words against Lord Shiva and Goddess Sati could not bear the humiliation of Lord Shiva by her father and she consumed herself with  her power ( yogshakti ).

And after that Lord Shiva was so angry that he created Veerabhadra with his hair while doing a tandava and ordered him to ruin the yagna and teach everyone suitable lesson whoever comes in your way.

Lord Shiva cut off the head of Prajapati Daksha in Veerbhadra avatar and after that on request of Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu,Lord Shiva attached the head of goat on torso of Prajapati Daksha as his real head was consumed in yagna Agni ( fire ) .

Lord Shiva took the burnt body of Goddess Sati and in her seperation he was feeling like his whole world had gone away and he was roaming here and there, this triggered an imbalance in the earth.

So, Lord Vishnu with Sudarshan Chakra cutted the body of Goddess Sati in 51 parts which were later became Shaktipeethas.Lord Shiva was angry on this but on the persuasion of Lord Vishnu, he agreed to make balance in whole world.

After that Lord Shiva started doing hard penance in the separation of Goddess Sati, due to which Goddess Aadishakti had to be born as Goddess Parvati.Goddess Parvati was Daughter of King Himavan,King of Himalaya and queen Mainavati and sister of Goddess Ganga.

Since childhood, Goddess Parvati used to see the image of Lord Shiva.Goddess Parvati was devoted to Lord Shiva. As she grew older,Goddess Parvati blossomed into a stunning woman filled with grace and beauty. While she captured the hearts of many kings and princes, she only had eyes for Lord Shiva.

According to the orders of Lord  Brahma,Goddess Parvati did severe penance to attain Lord Shiva.  On the orders of Lord Brahma, Devrishi Narada initiated the Panchakshara mantra 'Shivay Namah' to Goddess Parvati. She did hard penance to attain Lord Shiva.Seeing the harsh penance of Goddess Parvati,Lord Shiva got pleased but to check again her devotion or love towards him.

Lord Shiva tried to test the devotion and love of Goddess Parvati. To test Goddess Parvati, Lord Shiva incarnated as Brahmachari ( rishi ) and went to that place where she was doing harsh penance.

Seeing Brahmachari, Parvati duly worshiped him.  When Brahmachari asked Parvati the purpose of her penance, she told him that she wants Lord Shiva in the form of her husband.

After that Lord Shiva started condemning himself that ,"The Shiva you are worshiping lives on Kailash and you lives in palaces and what is your equal. What can he give you that you are adorned with ornaments and he wears snakes as ornaments?" Also Lord Shiva called himself crematorium and cemetery.

Seeing the Brahmachari condemning Lord Shiva like this, Goddess Parvati got angry. And she stopped Bharamchari from condemning Lord Shiva and in anger asked him not to condemn Lord Shiva.Seeing the devotion and love of Goddess Parvati,he smiled and appeared to Goddess Parvati in his original form.

She was very pleased to see Lord Shiva and bowed down to him.Lord Shiva asked Goddess Parvati for a boon.Goddess Parvati asked Lord Shiva to accept her as his wife and Lord Shiva nodded for this.Goddess Parvati also asked Lord Shiva to ask for her hand from her father, King Himalaya and her mother queen Mainavati.

In this way,Goddess Parvati pleased Lord Shiva and got the boon of having him as her husband and Lord Shiva completed his test to check the devotion and love of Goddess Parvati.
