DASHAVATARA : Ten Avatars of Lord Vishnu

LORD VISHNU

   Among trimurti or trinity,Lord Vishnu is nurterer of this world while on other hand Lord Brahma is creator and Lord Shiva is Destroyer.

    Their are good and evil things present in this world.But when the evil things and thinking overhead the good things then Lord Vishnu takes avatar to destroy that evil thinking or man from the earth.

  So in this phase to destroy evil practices and evil men from earth Lord Vishnu has taken 10 avatars which are known as " DASHAVATARA".

 "DASHAVATARA" means ten avatars or ten incarnations.Lord Vishnu taken different forms in different Yugas to save mankind from different evil or demons. So we talk about these Ten forms or Avatars of Lord Shree Hari Vishnu.

TEN AVATARS OF VISHNU ( DASHAVATARA ):

List of 10 avatars taken by Lord Vishnu are as follows:

1. MATSYA AVATAR :

     This avatar of Lord Vishnu was of a giant fish taken to save Vaishvat Manu and Sapt Rishis from great flood for the future development of civilization.

     In this avatar Lord Vishnu in form of Lord Matsya saved vedas which were taken by Demon Hayagriva and returned back the vedas to Lord Brahma.

2. KURMA AVATAR :

   When Samudra Manthan was going to happen and mount mandar was choosen to be used as big churn to make the ocean churn.But when Mount mandar was placed in ocean ,it started sinking in ocean. 

    To make churning happen and to support Mount Mandar,Lord Vishnu had taken avatar of Gaint Turtle which is known as Kurma Avatar.

3. VARAHA AVATAR :

      In this avatar,Lord Shri Hari Vishnu has taken a form of gaint boar to save earth from the claws of Demon Hiranyaksha who got powerful from the boon of Lord Brahma. 

   In some places Varaha means Half body of Boar and half body of man.Hiranyakashyap went deep in ocean to hide earth from everyone,but Lord Vishnu in form of Varaha went inside the ocean where he killed Hiranyakasha and saved earth.

4. NARSIMHA AVATAR :

      When Hiranyaksha was killed by third avatar of Lord Vishnu .i.e. Lord Varaha. His brother Hiranyakashipu became the enemy of Lord Vishnu and did harsh penance to get a boon which made him similar like immortal.He started doing tyranny with peoples but his son was great devotee of Lord Vishnu.

    For this Hiranyankashipu did not like him and tried many times to kill him, so to save his devotee Lord Vishnu has taken avatar of Narsimha. Lord Narsimha was half body of man and half body of lion and he killed Hiranyakashipu by tearing his chest with his nails.

5. VAMANA AVATAR :

      Vamana means " Dwarf ", a man who was small in size but he was clever. Once the demon king Bali or Mahabali was ruling all the three worlds and life of peoples were prosperus in his reign.He was religious and generous who does lot of Charity.But he was a great enemy of Gods and thats why Lord Vishnu has to take avatar of Lord Vamana to save the world and to save hertige of Gods.

      Lord Vamana cleverly asked for three steps of Land from King Mahabali and in these three steps first he measured all earth and in second step he covered all sky and third step he placed on head of mahabali by which he went to hades. In this way the gods gets their reign back.

6. PARSHURAM AVATAR :

     In this avatar,Lord Vishnu in form of Parshuram eliminated the evil Kshatriyas 21 times.Lord Parshuram was great devotee of Lord Shiva and he also learned the art of warfare from Lord Shiva.

    Lord Parshuram was son of Rishi Jamadgamani and Devi Renuka.A king named as Shastrarunja destroyed the ashram of Lord Parshuram's father for a divine cow ( kamdhenu ). At Lord Parshuram got angry and killed Sahastrarunja.

7. RAM AVATAR :

    In this avatar, Lord Vishnu as Ram born in palace of King Dashratha who was king of Ayodhya.Lord was son of King Dashratha and queen Koshalya.Lord Ram was an idol man for everyone. To keep the promise his father gave to his stepmother, he went to vanvas along with his beloved wife and younger brother.

       During vanvas, his wife ( Devi Sita ) was abducted by demon named Raavana.Raavana was great warrior and king of Lanka.And to find and get back his wife, Lord Ram went thousand of miles and killed that demon and his whole army and got his beloved wife Devi Sita back.

8. KRISHNA AVATAR :

     Lord Krishna is god of love and compassion.This avatar of Lord Krishna told us about love. Krishna avatar of Lord Vishnu was taken place when tyranny of King kansa was going on. 

    During Dwapar Yuga, there was an akashwani after which Kansa imprisoned his sister Devaki and her husband Vasudeva because according to aakashvani eighth child of Devaki and Vasudeva will kill him.But Lord Krishna was born and kansa tried many times to kill him but failed.After few years, Kansa called Krishna to Mathura in yagna where Kansa was killed by Lord Krishna.

9. BUDDHA AVATAR :

    Lord Buddha was the nineth avatar of Lord Vishnu.He was the founder of Bodh Dharma.In childhood Lord buddha name was Siddartha and he was son of King Shudhodhana.

He saw few things which disturbed him from inside, for this he left his kingdom and went somewhere in search of divine knowledge.He found divine Knowledge at gaya in bihar.This place is known as Bodh Gaya.

10. KALKI AVATAR :

     This incarnation of Lord Vishnu will take place at the end of Kaliyuga when evil thinking will at the peak.Kalki will be the tenth incarnation or avatar of Lord Vishnu.

     Lord Kalki ends the darkest, degenerating and chaotic stage of the Kali Yuga to remove adharma and turn era of Kaliyuga in the Satya Yuga, while riding a white horse with a fiery sword.He will born at house of vishuyat in Sambhal.
