According to legends , this story is of that time when marriage of Devi Parvati and Lord Shiva got fixed and their marriage is going to happen. Lord Shiva was ready for his wedding procession and Lord Vishnu, Lord Brahma, all the gods and goddesses came in his wedding procession.All the Gandharvas, Yakshas, Kinars and Ghosts came for their wedding so that they could enjoy the world's biggest wedding.

Lord Shiva was ready with moon on his beautiful head, Devi Ganga on his head, three eyes, a sacred thread of snakes, poison around his neck and a garland of Narmundas on his chest. He is adorned with a trident in one hand and a damru in the other. He was wearing ashes on his body and mounted Nandi who was also decorated.
The wedding procession started from kailash with loud sounds of Lord Shiva name. All gods and goddesses all were very happy and they all were in front of wedding procession. The ghosts, ghouls and Ganas was with Lord Shiva.

Some ghosts and ghouls had no head, some had no hands and some had no legs.Everyone was very happy at the wedding of Lord Shiva, but after looking at everyone, he felt happy. Because common people are just as afraid of ghosts and they were jumping and shouting.
And on the other hand, everyone was well prepared to welcome the wedding procession in the palace of Parvatraj Himwat.All the women were well prepared, dressed in good clothes and jewellery.

Goddess Menavati was waiting for the wedding procession at the gate of the palace. She was very happy because her daughter was getting married. He had never seen Lord Shiva before. So she had imagined that Lord Shiva would also look like Lord Vishnu as she worshiped him.
When the procession enters the city all the citizens are happy to see the deities before them. But when Lord Shiva enters the city surrounded by ghosts, ghouls and demons, the citizens get frightened after seeing him.

Seeing that procession, all the hopes of Goddess Mainavati and Himavat were diminished. And when Lord Shiva appeared before Goddess Mainavati covered in ashes, she fainted as the women who welcomed Lord Shiva asked her to give them their precious things as an omen. He took out the snake from his neck and gave it to them, causing them all to collapse.
After seeing all this, Lord Shiva wore new clothes and jewellery as appeared as a handsome groom. The form of Lord Shiva was such that no one in this world could be more beautiful and handsome than him. Goddess Mainavati was pleased to see him as a handsome man.

But he realized that external beauty does not matter to Lord Shiva as he is away from all materialistic things. So he requested him to appear in his true form. And after that Lord Shiva got married happily.
MARRIAGE PLACE OF LORD SHIVA & DEVI PARVATI:
It is believed that Lord Shiva and Devi Parvati got married at Trigun Narayan Mandir situated in Guptkashi, Uttarkhand. In this wedding, Lord Vishnu become brother of Devi Parvati and fufilled all responsibilities of wedding.
